Found an article in Internet News by Stuart Johnston. The article described the process used by the box as broadcatching.

Johnston defines broadcatching as being able to catch and use internet information streams/podcasts for later use.

Like Tivo is for tv programs, broadcatching is for podcasts and other internet information programs.

What really started me smiling though was the assessment of Roger Kay of Endpoint Technologies. "These types of products are pretty leading edge(and likely only appeal to) people who are tech savvy."

Now I'd have to disagree. I've been called a lot of things in my life, but tech savvy has never been on the list.

What I'm most excited about is the ability to plug in an mp3 player and with minimal effort have the information I want, downloaded for use when I want.

To me it has so many possible applications:

• Farmers being able to catch "the farm report" early and conveniently
• Nurses and doctors in rural areas able to stay on top of the latest health care information,
• School kids being able to take a special course that may not be offered in their school district,
• Audio books and the newspaper being delivered to people with visual problems so they can stay informed.

If this Casgle Podium gizmo truly does deliver the information easily, it will transform information delivery (adult education and schools to name some areas).

We can get information we want, when we want and conveniently too! And if this goes this beta test goes the way I hope, people definitely won't have to be tech savvy to use the Casgle Podium black box!

Got the email from Paul Colligan today, we are only supposed to use one specific model of mp3 player. That way Casgle can truly test the Podium box and not the mp3 players. The multi model mp3 test comes later.

Those of us in the black box beta test were so eager to go, it led to some interesting technical challenges for those monitoring the test.

And the red light keeps blinking…It makes me want to do something. But for now it's just wait for the official mp3 player.

We're ready…Hope the UPS guy delivers it soon.

Pushed the pause button on the Podium, and pulled out the memory stick. I connected the memory stick to my laptop and all of a sudden I hear Paul Colligan's voice saying, "Success, you're in."

Was able to play the first podcast sent in the beta test. Paul had done this interview with Geoff Smith. Geoff's the guy who's written podcast jingles for Paul, Adam Curry and many other big time podcasters.

Fun listening to the podcast. Geoff has a fun style of delivering the jingles. Good voice and he plays all the music too. Turns out he's a professional musician who writes, performs and produces the podcast jingles.

Got to figure out exactly how I want Podcast for Technophobes to sound. And I guess I'll talk to Bee and find out his thoughts on a jingle for Podcast for Boomers. Then will get in touch with Geoff and figure out how I can afford the jingles.

Oh, and by the way, the Bath and Bodyworks mp3 player still works! It didn't blow up.

Bee will just have to listen to the podcast when he gets home.

Didn't want to get a new mp3 player till we heard from Paul Colligan.

Decided to sacrifice the Bath and Bodyworks mp3 player-I'm prepared in case it blows up or something. It was one of those bonus buys at Christmas. (256 mg the package says and it was just the perfect size to fit in my jeans.)

So I plugged it into the black box. The red light kept flashing, but all of a sudden the little arrow and the pause button lit up in a neon blue and started blinking. I kept it there overnight, but the blue light never stopped blinking. Bee told me it wasn't going to work, probably not enough available space.

Well, I had just bought one of those memory sticks at one of those electronic stores. Long story short, Bee had gone in to check out the price on something and as usual ended up in one of those long discussions with a sales person about some gadget. I had wandered off and found these memory sticks on sale.

So I bought two. It was on sale and had enough available memory to try. So I plugged it the podium.

It'll be a great tool for the future listeners of Podcast for Boomers. After all, not everyone's a techie!

So was I surprised when I got the call on my cell?

"Hi Hon. I thought I'd surprise you and set up the Podium Box."

Do you think Bee got the message when there was dead silence on the phone? After all these years I know the answer is "No."

He was just excited about a wrapped box sitting on the desk. Knowing it was the Podium black box, he just couldn't wait.

I got home and there it was– one sheepish Bee and a little black box hooked into the router (it's the thing AT&T sold us to connect to the Internet). The black box was flashing a red light off and on.

Another email from Paul Colligan was in my inbox. The video instructions to activate the Podium Box are due tomorrow. Luckily the email comes to my inbox, so Bee will just have to wait.

Supposedly I won't have to twirl three times or even utter some very colorful expressions-you know those ones your great-grandmother raises her eyebrows and says, "Now really…."

I agreed to do this beta test, because I'm tired of getting upset when trying to subscribe or download a podcast.

I'm also tired of asking my husband for help-and if he says one more time "It's easy…"

I'll be a widow, then again better not, I look lousy in orange.

The poor FedEx guy wondered what happened yesterday when Bee went to the door and then said, "Denise, it's for you!"

I just smiled and said, "He's waiting for a special package. What can I say?" The guy shrugged and smiled. I mean, what could he say?

Listened to the last of our Podcast Secrets teleseminars with Paul Colligan today. He was answering all the last minute questions the participants asked.

Found out we weren't the only ones who hadn't received the Black Box. Seems we'll have to wait till Monday.

As far as the hiccup Paul found taking the mp3 player off the Podium Black Box early created a problem. So when the box arrives we're not supposed to set it up till we get the ok. We'll see if Bee waits for that email. I'm betting– not!

I don't know who's more excited Bee or me. The idea of a simple way to get podcasts delivered to the mp3 player sounds too good to be true.

Know Bee's going to be driving the UPS guy crazy till the box arrives.

The gizmo is called a Podium box, or more simply the 'Black Box.'

It's designed to be able to deliver subscription e content directly to an mp3 or iPod. For this beta test, Casgle is testing it as a premium content delivery system that's easy, simple and a gizmo anyone can use.

Since Bee has decided we're going to be hosting a podcast called Podcast for Boomers, we're going to participate. Or should I say I'm going to participate in this beta test.

You see Bee's a techie, a geek and loves new electronic toys.

Me, I like the convenience of technology.Where would I be without the microwave, the blowdryer , my computer and other such things?

But there's a big difference. Bee loves hearing and talking about bits, bytes, RAM and all that stuff.

I just want to know if it's going to work, not how it works. We go to an electronic store (infrequently-if I can help it) and Bee starts talking to the sales rep.

My eyes start glazing over as the jargon starts floating through the air. Frequently I just wander away to escape.

So this beta test is going to be interesting. Is it as simple and easy to use as plug it in and let it go? Or is there more to this Podium box?

Time will tell, it's a three month test…
